Report – School Related Gender Based Violence in Ndhiwa
• to establish thorough and reliable information about the causes and extent of school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) in the Ndhiwa community.
• to consult with community leaders (teachers, chiefs and elders, local government, other NGOs) to agree and trial effective strategies for changing public perceptions and eliminating SRGBV in Ndhiwa.
• to support the longer-term sustainability of the existing small network of community leaders who are fighting SRGBV, through training and confidence-building.
We have now been through a substantial period of planning, data collection, analysis and reporting and we are pleased to be able to share our findings with you in our School Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV) Report. The findings are shocking and despite knowing that we would uncover some worrying statistics, the research highlighted just how serious the problems of SRGBV and GBV are in Ndhiwa.
Maxwell Jalashe, a teacher and local supporter of Team Kenya’s work states, ‘I have gone through the report today and I also participated in carrying out the research, and I tell you the findings were shocking. Surely much needs to be done to curb this vice.’
