Exciting Volunteering Opportunities Available with Team Kenya
Team Kenya warmly invites you to be an active member of our small, vibrant and dynamic team. The work we do is driven by an expansive community of volunteers who are supported by two part-time employees and an actively engaged Board of Trustees. Together we work closely with our Kenyan based grassroot partner, Twende Pamoja, to ensure all girls from marginalised communities are empowered through education and safety from gender based violence. For over twelve years our commitment to the Ndhiwa community has developed organically and our collaborative projects have extended to include economic empowerment, environmental sustainability and gender equality. Team Kenya is offer volunteers access to an innovative and growing team of like-minded individuals, access to relevant training, networking opportunities as well as reimbursement of all relevant and pre-agreed expenses. Communications and Campaigns Manager
We are looking for a voluntary Communications and Campaigns Manager with experience in developing and leading the communications strategies and campaigns for small to medium charitable organisations or social enterprises. Team Kenya welcomes interest from experienced and dedicated professionals willing to spearhead our communications and campaigns at a pivotal time for the charity as we diversify our approach to connect and engage with new and existing supporters.
The right person for this exciting opportunity is a collaborator and communicator. They will have a sincere interest in understanding Team Kenya with the ability to recognise the potential in what we have organically co-created with our international community, and the skills and nuanced experience to communicate this impactfully, sensitively and with respect, in a highly competitive space.
Tasks of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the Fundraising and Operations Manager to create a communications strategy using the rich resources available from the Twende Pamoja team who are part of the community in Kenya.
- Working with the Fundraising and Operations Manager to create dynamic online and social media campaigns to enable us to recruit new supporters, engage our community and raise vital funds.
- Lead and further develop a small team of dedicated social media volunteers to create the necessary copy and assets to deliver the agreed communications strategy and digital campaigns.
- Recruit and manage a team of volunteers able to create copy, assets and promotional materials to support Team Kenya’s ambitions across all facets of the charity.
- Developing and managing risk in relation to our ever growing external communications to ensure we are clear in communicating and reflecting our values as an inclusive and welcoming organisation for all.
- Developing and managing a PR strategy to support Twende Pamoja and Team Kenya to establish an advocacy voice within the international development community.
Suggested time commitment: Initially 7-21 hours per week, depending on availability, which we will aim to decrease to 7 hours per week once a more robust volunteer team has been established to share the responsibilities.
Events Managers
We are looking for volunteer Events Managers with experience in creating and running innovative online, in person and hybrid events. Before the Covid-19 pandemic Team Kenya had a well-established community active in taking part in (in person) challenge and fundraising events with a community well established in schools, universities and largely based geographically in the North East of England. During the pandemic the community was not able to engage in the same way and, although in person events are slowly returning, we are looking to establish a stronger and more agile events and engagement strategy that also includes online and hybrid events. This is a pivotal moment for Team Kenya, with great potential to find and establish unique opportunities to engage our ever growing international community with each other and the vibrant community with whom we work.
The right person for this role is someone who has a true affinity for connecting people from all walks of life who are interested in coming together with like minded individuals around topics pertaining to social justice. We are interested in individuals who have the ability to recognise the value of Team Kenya in addressing social and gender inequalities and using their skills to create impactful, sensitive and respectful events that encourage meaningful connection and galvanise action within a highly competitive space.
Tasks of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the Fundraising and Operations Manager to devise an impactful series of events to allow Team Kenya to recruit new supporters, engage with our community and help us to raise funds at a vital time.
- Working with the Fundraising and Operations Manager to create an attractive offering that will attract interesting and engaging speakers, facilitators and moderators who share our passion across a wide range of topics including gender equality, education, environmental sustainability, economic empowerment and more.
- Create and manage all pre and post event processes and communications with the support of our communications volunteers.
- Manage the operations and logistics of events to ensure the space they create is warm, welcoming to all and promotes an atmosphere that truly reflects our values.
- Recruit and manage a team of volunteers able to support all events planning, logistics and operations.
Suggested time commitment: Initially 7-21 hours per week, depending on availability, which we will aim to decrease to 10 hours per event once a strategy is in place.
Social Media Managers
We are looking for voluntary Social Media Managers with experience using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Social Media Managers will support Team Kenya’s communication strategy on social media by writing content and creating social media assets to be shared across different platforms where we have a presence. We are looking to grow our team so that volunteers will be able to take ownership of the accounts and use measurable monthly reporting and research to help us build an intelligent social media strategy to engage, inform and inspire our followers to take action for vulnerable girls and communities in Kenya. Voluntary Social Media Managers will work closely as a dynamic team of volunteers and will be an essential part of our key communications strategy at a pivotal time for the charity as we diversify our approach to growing and engaging with new and existing supporters.
The right people for this exciting opportunity are collaborators and communicators with a genuine sincere interest in understanding Team Kenya and, ideally a strong interest in social justice. We are interested in individuals who have the ability to recognise the value of Team Kenya in addressing social and gender inequalities and using their skills to communicate this impactfully, sensitively and with respect in a way that galvanises action within a highly competitive space.
Tasks of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the Fundraising and Operations manager and the voluntary Communications and Campaigns Manager to deliver monthly, quarterly and annual social media strategies by contributing towards the monthly content calendar, writing copy, creating social media assets and posting regularly.
- Engaging and interacting with our followers to increase engagement and establish our online allies within the social justice space.
- Growing our social media followers in a way that attracts individuals who share our values and vision for equality.
- Prepare and present monthly reports at monthly meetings and contribute towards decisions in relation to upcoming content and social media interactions.
- Taking ownership of a chosen platform to research effective tools, trends and actions that will support Team Kenya’s ambitions.
Suggested time commitment: Initially 7-10 hours per week, depending on availability, which we will aim to decrease to 4 – 7 hours per week once a more robust volunteer team has been established to share the responsibilities.
Website Manager
We are looking for a voluntary Website Manager with experience and an in-depth knowledge of WordPress and Wix. Team Kenya’s website has historically been established and developed by a range of volunteers. We are now looking for an experienced and dedicated professional willing to take ownership for the management, virtual experience and appearance of Team Kenya’s website. This is an important time for Team Kenya as we prioritise a digital focus to connecting and engaging with our existing and potential supporters.
As a small charity the right person for this opportunity is a team player, who is interested in understanding the charity and our international community, and able to reflect this in the virtual experience of our website.
Tasks of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Managing all updates and functionality of Team Kenya’s website
- Resolving any issues that arise in a responsive and timely manner
- Reviewing the current website and advising on potential improvements
- Working with Team Kenya’s Fundraising and Operations Manager and a dedicated volunteer team on the website improvements
Suggested time commitment: Initially 7-21 hours per week, depending on availability, to lead the website review and action all agreed changes. This time commitment will decrease to 1-2hours per week upon completion to assist with maintaining the website.
