Impact Report 2023
Team Keyna’s Impact Report 2023
Our strategy in 2023 focused on growing income to a sustainable level so that Team Kenya have the resources to build partnership capacity, increase impact in Kenya and develop awareness of our work and wider global issues in the UK.
We would achieve this by working towards 5 goals:
Funding and Engagement
Finance
Data and Results
Communication
Resilience Building
Key Milestones of 2023
2023 was full of milestones in education, community support, and sustainability, all aimed at transforming lives and tackling inequality.
We continued our work focusing on gender equality, education, economic empowerment, and sustainable development, strengthened partnerships, expanded our Board of Trustees, and launched exciting projects with our partner, Twende Pamoja.
Empowering Girls Through Education
Over 480 girls joined STEM Digital Clubs, where they learned coding and other essential digital skills.
Football for Empowerment
Our “Football for Empowerment” project also returned, with 90 girls coming together to build confidence, foster friendships, and promote gender equality, while raising awareness in the community about girls’ rights.
Health and Wellbeing
We also continued initiatives focused on health, life skills, and wellbeing, helping girls build resilience and personal growth.
Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Practices
At the Karibuni Social Enterprise Demo Farm, honey production soared from 8 to 23 litres, thanks to the increased planting of flowers.
Financial Independence Education
900 women achieved financial independence, giving them the means to support their children’s education and lift their families out of poverty.
Strengthening Community Partnerships
Our collaboration with the Slovak NGO Hekima laid the groundwork for an Eco-entrepreneurship & Innovation Training Centre in Ndhiwa, enhancing community resilience and economic opportunities.
Partnering with Tespack, we introduced solar-powered Smart Media Systems, transforming classrooms into “smart learning spaces,” especially for STEM education.
Fundraising and Awareness Initiatives
Celebrating Our 15th Anniversary!
We brought together trustees, staff, and supporters for a 15th anniversary fundraising ball.
Big Give Green Campaign
Our most successful yet, the Big Give Green Campaign raised over £11,600 to fund sustainable enterprise initiatives for women.
Fundraising Through Fitness
Our supporters also took part in the Great North Run and a Scafell Pike climb, helping raise significant funds.
Growth in Leadership and Team Expansion
We strengthened our Board of Trustees by adding new members with expertise in finance, governance, and communications. We also expanded our team, adding roles focused on finance, impact assessment, and communications to support our continued growth and impact.
Recognition and Community Engagement
Founder Valerie Wilson was honoured at Buckingham Palace for her dedication to gender equality and community development. The Newcastle University Team Kenya Society also raised nearly £1,500 through campus events, actively involving students in our mission.
Throughout 2023, we empowered women, educated girls, and promoted sustainable practices in Kenya, building strong local and global partnerships and deepening our impact in the Ndhiwa community.
