Green Match Fund: Double the Impact for Climate Action & Food Security in Rural Kenya

This week provides a unique opportunity to double your donation and double your impact for vulnerable communities in rural Kenya. Together with Big Give, Team Kenya is supporting communities in the fight against climate change, with the Green Match Fund campaign.
What is the Green Match Fund?
Between 22-29 April, Big Give has selected hundreds of green charities to support by doubling every donation made – and Team Kenya is one of those lucky charities.
Every donation made to Team Kenya’s Forest Garden Initiative throughout this week will be doubled!
That means your donation goes twice as far, supporting grassroots climate action and sustainable agriculture projects that transform lives in Ndhiwa.
What does your doubled donation mean?
With your support, Team Kenya will continue empowering women and young people with the knowledge and tools they need to tackle the negative effects of climate change and secure their livelihoods.
Your donation to Team Kenya’s Forest Garden Initiative will contribute to:
> Training for women and young people in sustainable farming practices
> Providing tools and seeds to kickstart forest-gardens
> Improving the lives of families facing food insecurity
> Reforestation and climate action at the grassroots level
Enabling Healthy Ecosystems and Thriving Communities in Kenya
Climate change is devastating farming in Kenya, threatening sustainable livelihoods – agroforestry offers a long-term, sustainable solution, enabling households, schools, and communities to grow food and other vital products effectively.
What are the effects of climate change on communities in rural Kenya?
In Ndhiwa, 83% of households rely on subsistence farming. Climate change has led to unpredictable weather patterns, causing crop failures and threatening livelihoods. When crops fail due to floods or drought, the entire community suffers. This has a disproportionate impact on rural marginalised women who work in agriculture to feed their families.
How is Team Kenya supporting communities suffering from the effects of climate change?
With the support of every donation made, communities will be better equipped to adopt climate-smart agroforestry, integrating forest gardening with sustainable practices like crop rotation and composting.
Farms can begin to cultivate a mixture of trees, fruit trees, shrubs, and perennial crops, designed to mimic the structure of a natural forest – the most stable ecosystem for this climate.
Team Kenya’s focus is empowering vulnerable women and young people. By adopting climate-smart agroforestry, we aim to empower these communities, enhance food security, and promote environmental sustainability.
